In addition, “Flameproof” enclosures may include additional earthing/grounding provisions.

By definition, Increased Safety is a mechanical method of protection where protection is offered by applying appropriate creepage and clearance distances and selecting hermetically sealed components that are not capable of arcing or sparking under normal operating conditions. Intrinsically Safe protection is achieved by utilizing components that limit the amount of current generated under normal operating conditions. This method is electrical and when properly designed the components do not generate enough current to cause an arc or spark.

Increased Safety enables the user to select lower cost and lighter weight enclosures for use in hazardous locations. Components certified for use in Increased Safety enclosures are limited but significant cost savings can be achieved when applicable.

It is routinely tested to confirm that it meets the exact chemical and tensile strength requirements as required by 3rd party testing agencies. Significant elements include; Silicon (8.5% - 9.5%), Magnesium (.68% - .85%), Copper (.30% Max.), Iron (.30%), and Titanium (.12% - .20%).

WHAT IS A "T" RATING?
Temperature ratings are applied to complete enclosure assemblies that include internal control components. A “T” rating will takes into consideration the amount of heat produced by the internal components in addition to the outside ambient temperature to calculate the maximum possible surface temperature of the enclosure assembly. For example, a “T6” rating indicates that the maximum surface temperature will not exceed 85 degrees C. Hazardous gases ignite at different temperatures. Methane ignites at 595 degrees C and Benzene ignites at 220 degrees C. A “T6” rated enclosure would be safe for use around either of those gases because the temperature will not exceed 85 degrees C.
CAN I GET A NEMA 4X RATING ON ADALET EXPLOSIONPROOF ENCLOSURES?
Most Adalet explosionproof enclosures are available with a NEMA 4X rating by simply adding stainless steel hardware where applicable. Our 359 aluminum ingot meets NEMA 4X requirements without any additional coatings.
WHY DOES ADALET NAMEPLATES NOT INCLUDE THE DIVISION RATING?
According to the National Electric Code, “equipment suitable for Division 1 shall be permitted to omit the division marking”. Equipment not marked to indicate a division is suitable for both Division 1 and Division 2 locations.
